How to: Rec Room at The VR Club

Rec Room is one of the best VR games out there. As a multiplayer game for people lucky enough to own a VR headset, it offers a huge range of fun games such as paintball and laser tag and is always full of friendly people waiting to play.

However it’s a highly underrated game at VR arcades. This is because there is a learning curve with the game, how to move, how to manipulate objects and systems, and in particular using the wristwatch menu to join and invite friends to games.

After talking to the developers of the game, Against Gravity, about these issues faced by people new to VR, we came up with a solution. When launching Rec Room while at The VR Club, your game account and settings will be automatically selected, and you will then be automatically launched into a private room shared only with other players at The VR Club. If you’re playing with a friend or group, you will instantly see them in the game beside you.

From this private lounge you can relax and socialise, and decide on which game within Rec Room you would like to play. To join a private match, you simply teleport through one of the doors in the lounge. If your friends follow through the door they will stay with you as you start the game. Update: Players can now use the doors to return to the lounge area to pick a new game together, and switch maps in paintball/lasertag! This works for all modes apart from the co op quests. Getting back to the lounge from the quests is still slightly more complicated, you can either quit and reload Rec Room entirely (the easiest way), or tap on your wristwatch menu, select ‘Play’, then ‘Favorites’, then tap on the lounge button.
