We are Moving... to the YMCA!
It’s been a good run at the Lake House Arts studio. We reopened there at the start of 2021 after a crazy year of lockdowns... My heartfelt thanks to the team at Lake House for the opportunity to be there.
Our last day at the Lake House will be Sunday 16th July 2023.
We are aiming to reopen at the YMCA by the first weekend of August.
The landscape of VR is changing fast as technology evolves, and we need to adapt and grow to keep up with the latest innovations. There are three key factors we will focus on: bigger space, exclusive content, and social multiplayer experiences.
At our new location at the YMCA Northcote, we will have TWO huge 6x6m spaces to play with, plus an attached kitchen for parties. Parties will have the option for up to 10 players in one MASSIVE combined arena, the most players in one free-roam game possible anywhere! Along with awesome exclusive game content, this is the new direction for The VR Club for the future.
This means we will have a mostly new game library. The new focus will be on FREE-ROAM content such as HeroZone, which we’ve been offering as an option since 2021, and much more content in the same free-roaming style. So yes that means after July 16th we will no longer be offering old classics such as Rec Room, Among Us, and SkyFront.
But we have always had the largest VR game library in New Zealand, and so expect that to continue with announcements on more free-roam content very soon, we’re super excited about this premium content you can’t play anywhere else!
The other new feature we’ll be offering is the option to hire us for off-site parties. This means we can offer VR anywhere in Auckland (or in NZ if you REALLY want!). This will be for up to 6 players at a time in one arena, or up to 10 players at a time if you book a minimum 4 hours… plus you can take turns so more people can join in!
All you’ll need to do is hire a public venue such as a sports club or community hall with room to move around, and we’ll come and setup VR wherever you are!
A website overhaul will be going live in July with all the details and a new booking system too. We’re really looking forward to the new direction, and the new location at the YMCA on Akoranga Drive is also handily located next to a McDonalds, Burger King, Pizza Hut, Subway, and Onewa Domain so you can burn all that fast food away!
Thank you for all the support since we first launched way back in April 2018. To everyone who had their minds blown, held a VR party with us, gave us a glowing review, or came back again and again for more… it means so much. Thank you. It’s been a wild ride so far and we hope to see you all soon at the all new VR Club!
